Vitamins

A healthy diet consists of foods which are calorie dense foods, balanced carbohydrates, fats and proteins. Vitamins supplement a healthy diet to fill in the gaps of nutrients you are unable to meet. Vitamins are not a substitute for good nutrition, but may offer additional benefits of certain phytonutrients.

 

Scientific studies continue to emerge supporting the use of specific nutrients which are beneficial in treating and preventing certain diseases and chronic health conditions such as certain autoimmune disorders, certain cancers and osteoporosis.

 

For example, over the last five years, Vitamin D has become recognized as an essential “vitamin,” however Vitamin D is actually a hormone. There are many studies regarding the benefits of Vitamin D and how to obtain sufficient amounts for your body’s needs. Vitamin D can be found in some foods, many of which are fortified, and the body produces the hormone when exposed to sunlight, but still many patients need to take supplements in order to achieve optimal levels.
