We will start with a one on one consultation to review your medical records, personal and family history and current medications.  Together we will develop your personal plan to help you reach your wellness goals.

 Functional Medicine

Functional medicine involves understanding the cause, prevention, and treatment of complex, chronic diseases. It is an integrative, science-based health care approach that treats illness and promotes wellness by focusing assessment on the biochemically unique aspects of each client, and then individually tailoring interventions to restore physiological, psychological, and structural balance.

Most imbalances in functionality can be addressed; some can be completely restored to optimum function and other can be substantially improved. Virtually every complex, chronic disease is preceded by long-term disturbances in functionality that need to be identified and effectively managed - The earlier the better.

Once an assessment has been made, the functional medicine practitioner examines a wide array of interventions and selects those with the most impact on underlying functionality. Changing how your system functions can have a major impact on your health.

 Clinical Nutrition

Clinical nutrition is a cornerstone of functional medicine. It refers to both the practice of using food to maintain health and the therapeutic use of food to treat illness. Many people today want a magic bullet, but nothing can replace smart nutrition. Using the nutritional supplements that are right for you will help optimize your health now and in the future. The right supplements can be an important part of an overall program designed to address any specific health problems or concerns you may have. Remember nutritional support, whether it be foundational, targeted, or a combination of both, is most effective when combined with a health diet, regular exercise, and positive lifestyle choices.

 Dietary Couseling

Functional medicine practitioners understand that what you eat is the basis for your health. Adopting a healthy diet is often the first step towards correcting health problems. Many medical conditions can be treated more effectively with foods and nutritional supplements than by other means, and with fewer complications or side effects. Functional medicine practitioners may use specific individual food plans, fasting programs, food sensitivity elimination plans, and nutritional supplementation with their clients to address the underlying causes of their dysfunction.

 Botanical / Herbs

Botanical medicine is the use of plants to support the body in its healing response. Many plant substances are powerful medicines that are safe and effective when used appropriately. Plants have powerful healing properties; many pharmaceutical drugs have their origins in plant substances.

 Homeopathy

Homeopathy is a powerful system of medicine that is more than 200 years old. This medicinal system uses highly diluted natural substances to relieve symptoms and treat illness. The active ingredients in homeopathic medicines are diluted plants, animals, and minerals that relieve the same symptoms they cause at full strength (example: a micro-dose of coffee bean helps to relieve nervousness). Homeopathic remedies act to enhance the body's innate immune response and rarely have side effects.

 Lifestyle

Lifestyle is a big factor. Research estimates that 70% to 90% of the risk of chronic disease is attributable to lifestyle. That means what you eat, how you exercise, what your spiritual practices are, how much stress you live with (and how you handle it) are all elements that must be addressed in a comprehensive approach. You may be asked to make dietary and lifestyle changes that, when combined with nutrients targeted to specific functional needs, will allow you to really be in charge of improving your health and changing the outcome of disease manifestation.

 Exercise
 First Line Therapy

The FirstLine Therapy program will put you on the path to optimal health and ideal body composition through a combination of balanced eating, regular exercise, stress reduction, and using the correct supplements. The end result is a program that not only helps control aging, but also helps to prevent chronic disease and prolong vitality.

As you follow the guidelines of the FirstLine Therapy program, you will realize how wonderful it is to be able to control your aging and prolong your vitality. You will benefit in many ways: more energy, better sleep, less body fat, more strength, healthier skin and hair, fewer aches and pains, and renewed vigor and vitality.

Research from the past three decades has shown that the physical deterioration and lack of function associated with aging is in large part due to a sedentary lifestyle."Use it or lose it," the saying goes, and it seems that more Americans than ever before are "losing it." And while many are losing physical function from lack of activity they are gaining weight. All of this leads to an increased incidence of degenerative disease as people age, including breast, colon, and other types of cancer, heart disease, hypertension, stroke, diabetes, obesity, and arthritis.

The good news is that it is never too late to do something about it. Beginning in the 1980s, research at Tufts University has shown that people in their 80s and even 90s can gain benefit from exercise similar to those seen in young men and women. Age is not the issue-no one should lose hope of recapturing youthful levels of fitness and vitality!
